August is National Sandwich Month!

The entire month of August is dedicated to sandwiches! While some national holidays are only celebrated for just one day, the sandwich gets to be in the spotlight all month long! Why you ask? Well, we really aren't for sure but the best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks thinks it may be because there are SO MANY sandwiches out there to try and love! With all those choices how could they really just devote one day to be National Sandwich Day? We have been serving up delicious sandwiches all Summer long and if you haven't stopped in to try one you better make it a top priority.

History of the Sandwich

According to the History Channel, the iconic sandwich that we all know and love was first introduced in England in 1762 by a man by the name of John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich. You see John had a bit of a gambling problem. So much so that he didn't even want to get up from the table to eat. He loved meat and cheeses and he requested that the cook bring him out something that he could eat without having to get up and something that he could hold with one hand, and thus the sandwich was born! Although, we can't give John all the credit. He did gain inspiration from journey's he took to the Mediterranean where he ate platters where dips, cheeses, meats, and such were "sandwiched" together.

Fun Facts About Sandwiches!

  • American's eat more than 300 million sandwiches each year
