 Did You Know?

  • The largest pizza was made on October 11, 1987, by Louis Piancone and Lorenzo Amato in Havana, Florida. It was 140 feet across and covers 10,000 square feet.
  • Most Italians just thought of pizza as a meal for peasants in the 1800s. That quickly changed when baker, Raffaele Esposito created a Margarita pizza for visiting royalty. They were so impressed by the pizza and how it incorporated the colors of the Italian flag, white, red, and green. Soon after pizza became a main course in restaurants all over the country.
  • Americans eat around 350 pizza slices per second.
  • National Sausage Pizza Day is on October 11th.
  • National Cheese Pizza Day is September 5th.

  • In 1943, the first Chicago deep dish pizza was created by the restaurant the later became the Pizzeria Uno chain.
  • In 1962, the Hawaiian pizza was invented by Sam Panopoulos. He was a native of Greece who ran a pizza place in Canada.

It's almost time for the 33rd Annual Harbor Hop! This year, Harbor Hop will take place on Saturday, October 13th. This annual event at the Lake of the Ozarks is fun for everyone and it's a great excuse to get out on the water. While the Lake of the Ozarks is a booming vacation destination in the Midwest, with thousands upon thousands vacationers - it hasn't always been that way. The Lake of the Ozarks is only 75 years old, but the area has been around even longer.
