Did You Know?

Do you have questions about beer? We have some answers! Here are some frequently asked questions about your favorite brew, and a few answers that you can share over this well-loved beverage!

What gives a beer a citrusy taste?
There are many IPA's that have this citrusy flavor, and it's related to the hops that the beer is made from. Ironically, national IPA day is on August 3rd - so you can celebrate that, too!

What causes the foam in my beer?
The foam on the top of your beer is also called the "head" and it's produced by the bubbles of gas that are typically a sign of carbon dioxide rising to the surface. The elements that produce the head on your beer are typically wort protein, yeast, and hop residue.

What makes beer stout?
A stout beer is a dark beer, and it's caused by using roasted malt or roasted barley, hops, water, and yeast. Stouts are typically the term for the strongest or stoutest porters produced by a brewery. There are some different opinions on what makes a stout and a porter different though, and the common consensus is that porters are made from malted barley, and stouts are made from unmalted roasted barley.

How long does it take to make beer?
The process of making the beer only takes a few hours, but the patience comes in when you are fermenting the beer. It generally takes about two weeks for the fermentation process. Then the beer will be bottled (if it's a bottled beer), and that can take a few hours, depending on the quantity. After that, the beer will need to sit in the bottle for another week or two to finish it off!

What makes craft beer so special?
A craft beer is a brew that is made in a traditional or non-mechanized way by a small brewery - in essence, it's a craft that is constantly being perfected by the brewery. This is one of the best times to be alive if you love craft beer because, in 2016, there were over 5,234 total craft breweries in the U.S alone. What makes it special? Some could say the love and care that is brewed into each and every glass - while others just know that the flavor is more refined.
